The short version: Verify the organizer, venue, ticket terms, competition rules, and government travel requirements independently before buying non-refundable travel.

A tournament can be real, announced, and still be too early to book. Dates move, venue sessions differ, spectator tickets do not always include competition entry, and a social post is not a refund policy.

Verify five identities

Match the event across:

  • the organizer’s official domain;
  • the venue’s own calendar;
  • the authorized ticket seller;
  • the game’s official esports channel; and
  • the registration or rules platform for competitors.

One reposted graphic is not five sources. If the organizer names partners, follow the links from its site rather than searching for lookalike sales pages.

Separate attendance from competition

Confirm whether a spectator ticket includes venue access only, whether tournament registration is separate, and whether a badge covers every day or one session. Check age restrictions, ID rules, bag policy, controller rules, check-in deadlines, and what happens after a late arrival.

Read the schedule at the right resolution

“October 9–11” proves the event window, not the time your bracket begins. Exact pools, match days, stage assignments, and doors may be published later. Build a buffer until the organizer releases the level of detail your trip requires.

Treat refunds as a product feature

Before paying, save the current ticket terms. Ask what happens if the event moves, a game is removed, a player withdraws, or travel disruption prevents attendance. Travel insurance has its own exclusions; “insured” does not mean every cancellation is covered.

Check government sources yourself

Passport validity, visa rules, transit requirements, health measures, and local entry conditions belong to government sources for your citizenship and route. An organizer’s FAQ can be helpful, but it cannot evaluate every traveler.

The 24-hour booking pause

Place the ticket, flight, and hotel terms side by side. Mark which items are refundable and until when. If any critical event detail exists only on social media, wait for the official page or obtain written clarification.
